P90 Week 2

So I was going to put an update in on Monday and now it is Friday. Monday my son had a seizure at school so that since a wrench into the whole week.

So week 1: I missed one workout on Wednesday because I worked Tuesday night and had work meeting that ran till noon and had to go back into work Wednesday night. This ment only 3 hours of sleep for me so I did not workout. My eating was good and I mostly followed my meal plan.

Week 2: I have done all my workouts so far. I just need to do todays and tomorrows. My eating has sucked. I am going to focus harder on that in week 3. Today is grocery day so I will meal plan then go to the grocery and make sure when I get home from the grocery store I cut up all the veggies and fruits to have them ready to eat.

I have gained a couple pounds so far. I expect this as I build muscle first before I lose the fat. Plus with my eating game not 100% it is to be expected too.

I am happy with my consitency in my workouts and my increase in my drinking of water. I am ready for Feb 28th which is my first official dayshift.

I have decided to use this blog as a way to keep track of my personal health goals. Instead of using it to document family fun or things that have been going on because if you look back I really stink at that. I am not using this for other people to keep track of. I actually get sick of seeing all my friends post about how they lose weight and their workouts. I do like a good foodie picture every now and again.

So here it begins. On Monday January 7th I will start P90 after my 90 days of that I am going to do Yoga for a month then on to T25. Hopefully this gets me halfway through the year. I hope to lose a total of 20 lbs this year. That is what I have gained in 2018.

How am I going to do this? Having a plan is a good first step! Plans to acheive goals are meal planning because eating is 75% of the problem and working out is only 25%. This means that I will meal plan for each meal and snack that I am going to eat. That is right, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks will all be planned out. Once I have done this for the week then I can just not think about it. Look at the list and move on. This also means eating lots of vegetables and finding different ways to eat them. I got this. I can do it. I like vegetables. One way to plan for this is to have them precut up for the week and readily avaliable.

The biggest part this year will be my move from nightshift to dayshift. Afther 13 years on nightshift it is time to join the ‘normal’ world and have a regular routine. I know this will play a huge factor into my journey. This will be the hardest part. I know I can do it.

Come on Summer

Okay so it has been way longer then I would have liked to be making a post.  I have to say that I have been in a really bad winter slump. Yes I get these every year but this year it has been particularly bad. I don’t want to get out of my PJ’s ever and I don’t want to do anything but watch movies. And mostly I want to watch them from my bed. Now the past few days the sun has been shinning and even though it is cold out, I still find that just that bit has help me feel like I have had more energy and can conquer the world. So where am I at in my goals: Nowhere! Now is time to step up the pace. So here is my plan to really get going on my goals:

1. Project get Healthy: Yesterday I started working out using Jillian Michael’s 30 day Shred and I am going to do it again today. When I work out if find that I eat better, sleep better, and drink more water. So here is to making that change in the next 30 days. I hope that I can work out for the 20 minutes even after I have worked all night. Making it a habit not just a side project.

2. Blog/Write more: Yeah you can see how well I have done with that. Again today starts a new day so here is to hopefully more post soon.

3. Read more: Yes as stated above I have been a watching more TV then I would like to admit and not read hardly anything. Still working on Little Women that I started before Christmas. Hopefully with my new found motivation this will also change.

4. Actually I do have plans for this! in 2 weeks I will see my first broadway play tour in Cincinnati. I am super excited. I think it will be an awesome time. We decided as a family that we would do more of a Staycation this year. This means that we are going to go places that we haven’t been to that are right in our back yard. Like the Creation Muesum, Great Wolf Lodge, day trips to Indinanapolis, Columbus (Kendra wants to go to the American Girl Doll Store for her birthday), Louisville. I will be headed to Nashville for my girls trip and will be able doing this that I haven’t done there before either. I also am going to catch the butterfly exhibit here in Cincinnati too. There is so much to see and do!

5. Only meeting this goal if you include watching movies. We have done nothing too exciting yet this year. This weekend may change all that as Kendra and Chris have a date and Ephriam and I have a date. Ephriam’s idea of a date is dinner and a movie so not really exciting there but gives me some one on one time with my boy. Kendra and Chris will be going to see Jamie Grace in concert. Kendra knows that she is going but doesn’t know she has VIP tickets and will get to participate in a meet and greet with her! She will be thrilled when she finds out!

So here is to getting my butt in gear and getting my goals met this year!

Here Comes 2014

So 2013 has been a really good year for us Walkers. Lots of great blessings this year which you can see some here.  So here is what I hope is in store for us for 2014. These are goals and not resolutions. Resolutions are usually broken by the end of January and I want this these to be life changing.

1. Project get Health: This is not about loosing weight or just eating healthy this is all around feel good health. I am sure that we will eat well and loose weight at the same time but it is totally about getting healthy. As I have a family history of heart disease and blood cancer. I want to be able to at 90 still take care of myself and I can only do that if I am healthy. So here is to eating exercise and loosing some weight.

2. Blog/write more. I want to post here once a week. Not for you my readers but for me. This is an outlet for me. I place where things go and I can document life and yet brain dump. I also have a notebook that is just for me where I hope to write in.

3. Read more. Read more books for fun, my Bible, and get more educated. I really want to read more. Yes this means turning off the TV and having lazy days of reading.  I am hoping that our finances will be in order enough for me to go back to school on line through UC and get my BSN (Bacholors Science of Nursing) we will see though.

4. Explore! I want to try new foods, see new places! I want to explore all sorts of new. We will see how this goes as there are time and money restraints but we will see.

5. Relax more and enjoy life. My kids are getting older and pretty soon they won’t want anything to do with me. I want to enjoy them now. In the moment. Play more. Do less adult stuff. Enjoy more through their eyes. I just want to be in the moment.

How about you? What do you want to change in your life for 2014? What goals do you have?

End of 2013

Well the New Year is around the corner and here are some highlights from 2013:

1. We took our first family of 4 vacation! – We have taken vacations before but they have always been with other family. This year we ventured to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed the Atlantic Ocean just the 4 of us.  We had a great time with no schedule to go anywhere.

2. I am continuing to work at Fort Hamilton on IMC. I love my job!!!! I love the fast pace, the people I work with, and my boss. I have had lots of training in 2013. I am offically Critically Care trained, ACLS trained, and have just recently started being the relief charge nurse. I am blessed to get to use my gifts God has given me each day.

3.  I was able to travel with my mom and aunts to my cousin Susan’s house in Tampa. I got to enjoy some cultural in St. Petersburg and visited an art muesum. It was different as that is not something that I would have picked to do. I did enjoy it being almost 90 in April.

4. For my birthday this year Chris and the kids’ surprised me with tickets to the Red’s game! I LOVE baseball and oh how much fun it was to go watch our home team play ON my actual birthday!

5. We spent another year at Spirit Song! We didn’t see as many favorite this year as last but we had a blast going out and seeing the artist that were there. Not sure if we are going again in 2014 but I hope that we do!

6. Ephriam started 3rd grade and Kendra started 2nd grade. Both have teaches that they love and are having great school years.

7.Ephriam started playing baseball in Joe Nuxhall’s Miracle League. He LOVES every minute of playing with his buddy and can’t wait for it to start in the spring!  Kendra started taking ballet classes and is loving every minute and has already talked about taking them again next year.

8. We celebrated 1 year of being attenders at Lifepoint Church. God certainly knew what he was doing for us when he put us there. Words can not even begin to say how well we fit in there with the loving community that we call family.

9. Of course we have enjoy all our trips to see family through the year. Looking forward to more trips in 2014 from Louisville, Nashville, Toledo, and where ever else the road may lead us!

10. Oh and how could I have forgotten that I celebrated being married for 10 years to the best man God could have ever given me.  In 10 years we have been through A LOT and it has not killed us but brought us closer together. Can’t wait to see what the next 10 years bring usl

What are the highlights for your year?

Look forward next week to goals of 2014.

Early Release

Well this title sure has more then one meaning. I am thinking about bringing this blog back to life and writing at least a couple times a weeks. I miss having this outlet as a place for me and well a place to keep track of all the fun things that we do as Team Walker. So this is just an ‘Early Release’ to see how it goes.  For those of you who followed the blog before and are still subscribers, Thanks for being here and reading. I will let you know for sure when there is a real come back.

Another ‘Early Release’ I am talking about is the kids getting out of school. I have a love and hate relationship with this one. I love the extra time with my kids that we get to spend together on these days.  I love seeing them happy to get out of school early twice a month. However, I hate losing an hour of sleep after a long night at work. I hate listening to Kendra complain for an extra hour each early release day. In the end though, I love it more then I hate it.

Well guess I should get back to home life and getting ready to face another day.

10 more weeks!

I am finally in the home stretch of school. Just 10 more weeks and I will be done with Nursing School! I will just need to pass NCLEX and so far from my practice ATI test I should be able to pass so long as I sleep the night before the test. It is not recommended that you work all night and take the test. I have not done so hot on my test when I have done that.

These next 10 weeks will be me working 4-5 12 hour shifts plus going to class 2 days a week from 9-12. I will work 3 of my 12 hour shifts at my regular job and then the other 1-2 with my preceptor. Luckily all my 12 hour shifts are at night to keep a more consistent schedule for me. I hope this too brings about more sleep for me. We will see how it goes. I just know that I have made it this far I can get through 10 more weeks!

I don’t know who is most excited about me being done me, my mom, or my daughter. Kendra has my whole summer booked of things to do with her and Ephriam. My mom will be glad that I will be able to sleep and feel rest. I too will be glad of all those things not to mention my house will be clean and I will get to do some fun things just for me. I have gained about 20 lbs while in school and I am hoping to take that off too. While updating my resume, studying for NCLEX, taking NCLEX and such.

So here is to kicking the next 10 weeks in the booty!

Where did my summer go?

So here I am blogging for today! Not sure how often that I will be able to do this but hoping more then what I have. I love to spill things out here, it helps me to sleep better at night, informs everyone else of what we are doing, and well is nice to have so that later we can look back on the fun and rough waters that we have had.

We are now preparing for the kids to go back to school. I know that the kids are excited and so is Chris but me…. well not so much. It is probably because this summer I didn’t get to spend half as much time with my kids as I have in summers past.  My summer elective for nursing was more intense that I thought that it was going to and we have been busy doing one thing or another. The kids went to 2 VBS this year which was good for them. Ephriam has been back to the DDBP and has several other doctors appointments this fall. Kendra has been her normal ask a trillion question a day. We didn’t do some of the things that we had planned to but hey that is life.

Ephriam can’t wait to make it back to school I don’t know if it just because he misses his friends or he is bored at home but he is super excited about going back. Kendra is excited too as she is going to Kindergarten and will be going for a full day! We hope that she makes some nice friends at school and learns lots.

This fall I will be doing my OB and peds clincial rotation. I am excited because I won’t have to work as hard as I did last term. I have been working in OB for almost 7 years now and I think that the girls I work with would cut off my head if I didn’t do well.

Christopher is still looking for a job. It has almost been 15 months since he as worked.  I think he is ready to go back to work no matter the job. He if not I do know for sure that he is ready for his kids to go back to school so that he can maybe miss them a bit. He has been great as a stay at home dad even if he doesn’t think so. I am glad that I didn’t have to do half of the work around the house that he has. He does have a job interview on Monday so we will see how that goes.

So that is a bit for now maybe a blog post tomorrow? We will see what my day holds.

How has your summer been?

By the time you read this I will have turned in my final exam at school and will see be seeing my parents’ beautiful faces. I have made it through what they call the hardest term and I am so excited! I get to have a little break for the summer by only taking 4 credit hours this summer. In the fall however when I return I will be back to taking 11. However I have heard that it isn’t as intense as this term.  We will just see how that goes.  So hopefully you will be hearing from me more since I just have work and a few school credit hours. Of course we might be too busy enjoying being a family too. Something I know that my kids have missed this term. I am determined to graduate June 22, 2012.

The funny thing is that this term has been more time consuming they anything. I am so glad to have added to my nursing skills set. I feel pretty confident what I have already learned and will continue to grow as a nurse I hope. I really feel like I am made for this and can apply it to a real patient. I can’t wait to see what is up next for me to learn.
