The end is near

Of May that is! I am so glad that it is almost over. It has been a busy time for us and has lead to the kids being sick for what seems like weeks on end. I am sure it is just because they have been run ragged. This weekend wraps things up. I am so excited for my brother and his soon to be wife as they are getting married this weekend! I am so glad to be getting such a great sister (in law) and for them to FINALLY just be married. I hope that even though things have been stressful as they head to the ends of their single lives, that they have enjoyed the ride. I hope that they have enjoyed making the plans and being in each other’s company. I hope mostly that they make the most of the beginning of their life together. I hope they also know that with each day that passes that you love each other more and more. I hope next week in my ‘free time’ (whatever that maybe) to post pictures of their day.

June is looking so good. I know that I will be working over time or at least being on call extra but to know that other then my ‘normal’ routine we will be at home is a breathe of fresh air.  Knowing that I have weekends at home and will be at small group all but one week makes my heart sing. For now I need to get ready for the rest of the chaos.

(please excuse spelling, grammer, ect. since I have been working all night and haven’t gone to bed yet. Thanks.)

Adventure May

Every May is a new adventure and it seems to get crazier and crazier each year. I have been trying to log on and blog for a while but I just haven’t been able to sit down long enough to do so. Here are some things that I have been up to:

I have spent the past couple of weeks either working, doing school work, or packing. This past weekend we were in Gatlingburg taking a little break for everyday life. In preparation for that there was lots of shopping and packing to be done. We had a nice smooth ride down with out anything going arye. We had a nice first night there playing on the playground with the kids and just chilling out. The next morning we got up and hiked to the Walker sisters’ cabin just like we did the year before. This time however we didn’t carry Kendra in a backpack we let her be the leader of the pack and show us the way. Chris’ Uncle Mike and Aunt Star didn’t go with us but we did take his mom and his younger brother’s fiance with us. It was a very humid day but we had a nice hike. Then we headed back to  the cabin for lunch. Thing then got a little sour, Ephriam had had loose stools up to this point, he didn’t eat lunch and insisted that he take a nap and not going swimming. We laid down for a while and things seemed fine till we were getting ready to go to the parade downtown. Ephriam started getting sick, I sent the rest of the crew down while I hung back and watched TV and movies with Ephriam. He didn’t settle down and go to sleep till almost midnight that night. The next morning he seemed to be doing better but I didn’t want to take him back out to the heat and humidity so most of the rest of the crew headed out on the hike to see a waterfall. Chris told me I would have loved it if I could have been there. He said that miss Kendra was his little buddy and that she did so well. I was starting to get a little stir crazy and needed to get out so the girls and I headed out to go to the winery. The trip wasn’t as long as I had hoped it would have been but some nice fresh air was good. We were going to go to the pool when the kids woke up only to have it start pouring down in the middle of nap time. So we hung out inside. If you know me, by now I was really getting a little crazy, so crazy in fact that Chris and I left the kids behind and walked in the pouring down rain to the strip. We ended up meeting up with Mark and Kerstin for dessert and a little shopping. Once we got back we hung out with Chris’ Uncle Mike for a little while before hitting the hay. Up early on Sunday morning to pack up the car and head home. By the time we got home Chris wasn’t feeling so good and by bedtime neither with Kendra. I however was at work (okay so I am at working typing this out to post later, so I am not sure how their night went, I hope okay).  I will be post pictures soon from our trip so that everyone can see the few things that we did get to do.

This month I also got Ephriam all set for school next year. He has his IEP set and his teacher is working on transitioning over to her room. I hope that he will continue to do well and make good progress. His teacher next year already loves him to pieces and can’t wait to have him. I just know that great things are coming for him. I am still trying to figure out what is going on with my little guy that is causing his delays. As I know more I will post more but for now we are just waiting.

This week seems like it will be my easiest this month. Next week we will be working towards my brother’s wedding. I can’t wait to see everything come into place for him and his future wife, Katie. We are so blessed to have them as part of our family. We will also be celebrating my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.

June looks a lot easier right now but we will see how I will do having my kids home all the time. I am hoping to keep them busy enough so that they don’t get bored. If you have any suggestions I will take them. I know that there is plenty to do around here.

Well it is back to work for me.  Look for pictures soon.

Getting Crunchy

Since we have been on a health kick around here we have also on a little bit of a going green kick. Chris and I have been trying to remember to take our reusable bags to the grocery store (okay so I usually forget but I am usually going to the grocery store after I drop the kids off at school and I am in a hurry), we were at Old Navy on Saturday night and purchased stainless steal reusable water bottles for the whole family, and we are also looking into getting a compost bin.

I want to use the reusable grocery bags mostly because they hold more then the plastic ones. Which in turn means less trips to the car to get them. When I do get the plastic bags I do take them back to the store to be recycled even if it takes me months and months. I do save a few to use as trash bags in the garbage can in the bathroom or on road trips to hold trash but I am trying to get away from using them period.

The reusable water bottles started out because I am trying to not use sippy cups for the kids any more. The are too big for them but I like them because they don’t spill in the car and we travel quite a bit to see family. I found stainless steal ones that have a plastic lid that you pull open like a sports bottle. This means if for some reasons they do spill in the car that it won’t be much.  Kendra loves hers. She wanted to use it right away only I couldn’t let her because it needed to be washed first but she has used it all day today. Another feature that I like is that it hold almost double of water then what the sippy cup holds. This means that they won’t need to hopefully be filled as often.

Composting came about when Sunchips came out with the compostable bag (I am not getting paid in anyway shape or form from Sunchips). I then got thinking about all the food products and such that we throw away. Not to mention all the paper products that we could be shredding up. There is also all the yard waste. Chris mentioned that I would have to dig up some worms but I know where to find them in our yard and don’t have a problem doing that. I think it would also be a good lesson for the kids to learn.

Of course we will continue to grow our own garden this year too. I can’t wait to get our seeds going. It just seems that it still wants to freeze from time to time so nothing is in the ground yet but it won’t be long. I am anxious to see what we will get this year!

So are any of you getting greener? If you have any tips on the composting let me know and I will keep you updated on things.
